Last week, we had the privilege of hosting a group of high school and middle school students during Rowan County Economic Development Commission’s Manufacturing Week. It was an incredible opportunity to open our doors to young minds, specifically interior design classes, and share a behind-the-scenes look at what we do here at GLR Kitchen and Bath.
We gave students hands-on demonstrations of various aspects of custom cabinetry and fine carpentry. From building a dovetail drawer box to crafting a shaker door, they got a firsthand look at the intricate craftsmanship involved in each project. We also explained the differences between various lumber species and took them through the steps of painting a door in our professional paint booth.
Beyond the technical skills, we walked the students through our design process, showing how we work closely with clients to create custom solutions tailored to their spaces. We discussed the range of services we offer, from initial design meetings to our hand-built custom cabinetry.
It was exciting to see young people take an interest in the trades and learn more about the craftsmanship that goes into fine woodworking. We’re passionate about what we do, and it’s inspiring to think that some of these students may one day join us in this field.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s Manufacturing Week and the chance to inspire even more students to explore careers in fine carpentry and design!
